Accuracy of the Summaries
The summaries of the studies on this
website have gone through an extensive review process to ensure that
the summaries are accurate. The following are the steps
of the review process:
1) As promoters of chastity and
abstinence as the only way to lower or eliminate the risk of both
teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases, we search for studies in
six areas: "Understanding Your Teen," "What's Working With Teens,"
"Today's Risky Lifestyle Behavior," "Today's Danger with
Sexually Transmitted Infections/Diseases," "Why Contraception is Not
the Answer," and "Why Abortion is Not the Answer to a Teen
Pregnancy." After obtaining a study, it is read by staff with academic
degrees in Nursing, Social Work, or Sociology.
2) A summary is written and
reviewed by executive and legal staff.
3) Each summary and study is sent to a review committee made up of medical doctors, nurses,
doctors of epidemiology, and communication experts.
4) Corrections and adjustments, if
any, are made to the summaries before they are posted to the website
and sent to subscribers through the e-mail subscription service.
You can read the studies yourself by
obtaining them. We have provided the citation following the
summary of each study. What
the Summaries are not.
The summaries are not a review of the accuracy of the studies.
Many of the actual studies have been peer-reviewed by the
publication that originally published them. Some of the studies may
not have been peer-reviewed; but may be initial findings that require further
research. Study Selection
We select materials that confirm to parents that
abstinence is the healthiest lifestyle for teens and young adults
today. The materials recite health statistics and/or describe
medical risks from recently published articles and studies and
include citations to legitimate authorities.
In addition, recent developments in health and science are shared so
that parents are provided with relevant information to enable
them to make an educated and informed decision about what to teach
their children. Some of this information is initial research that
may require further study and research. Some studies may conflict
with other published scientific studies. We believe parents should
be told of the conflicting information to assist them in deciding how they want to proceed with the information
with their children.
